My mother, Dylis Ladwiniec nee Hughes, now 94 years of age, worked at Grendon Isolation Hospital as a State Enrolled Nurse during World War 2. She recalls German PoWs from Merevale working at the hospital, and even being allowed to drive the ambulance unsupervised.
My dad remembers about his mom inviting a POW from Merevale Hall (Roman Trinkler) in for dinner on Xmas day as he walked past in the cold and snow. He came every Sunday after that for weeks. They lived on the A5 at Grendon.
My grandfather, Joseph Kibbler of Tamworth, worked for War Agriculture and worked with Italian prisoners of war at Merevale Hall. He died a long time ago, but I can remember him talking about it.
