The ghost of Edmund Golding, a parish clerk who died in 1793, it has been said, has been seen in the church walking up and down and muttering responses.
On Shrove Tuesday the bell ringers started the day with a peal of bells.. Then the pancake bell was rung, which by that time was giving notice that the parish clerk and the ringers were making a tour of the farms to collect their allowance of pancakes. They collected them in a large, flannel lined basket, singing,
“Link it, Lank it
Gie me a pankit.”
