I am fortunate to be able to say that I played cricket with Bill Mason from 1962 to about 1965, for Exhall and Wixford. He was a wonderful leg spin bowler. A lovely man who was kind to me as a young lad. His last game was at Elmley Castle when he was 70. He took four wickets.
Bill Mason is probably related to the Masons family from the “Great Alne” not far from Alcester that were blacksmiths from the late 1700’s onwards. My 3rd great grandmother was a Mary Gould (Mason) b 1811 her father Richard Mason, brother James and Nephew Frederick were listed in the Census as Blacksmiths.
Im related to a Mary Mason from the Great Alne I 1811 note that her father Richard brother James and nephew Fredrick were also Blacksmiths. Mary married a John Gould 1809 who lived in Broom and also around the Graftons. Most of John’s offspring came out to NZ after the typhus epidemic in 1883
