This was the ancient seat of the Newsham family.
One tradition says that one Squire Newsham, who died in 1836, drives a phantom coach and four down the avenue in the park. An elderly witness speaking in 1923 claims to have heard it one winter night, but not seen anything.

I’m not sure you have the right Newsham. The last Newsham to live at Chadshunt was James Craggs Newsham, who died bankrupt in France in 1769. His heir sold the estate to my forebear, the Earl of Catherlough
