'Old Icknield Street', Bidford on Avon. 1900
Icknield Street, sometimes Rycknield Street, was a Roman road which ran through Derby, Lichfield, Birmingham and Alcester. The origin of this name is very obscure (Vict. Hist. of Warwick, i. 239).

Up until the end of the nineteen century, after church services on Trinity Sunday (the first after Whitsun), the parishioners used to take the following day off as holiday. Stallholders used to set up shop in the High Street to cater for them.
