Description of this historic site

Findspot - a bronze saucepan of Roman date was found 400m north east of Newton.

Notes about this historic site

1 Found in 1953 during gravel working and is now in Warwick Museum. It is in reasonable condition and belongs to a series with a bulging wall on a flaring foot. The vessel was probably made in Gaul by a factory supplying the needs of the army in the mid 1st century. Most examples have been found at or near forts and the find could indicate a nearby Claudian fort.
