Notes about this historic site
Perforated stone disc, ploughed up on SE edge of Crackley Wood in 1954.
Roughly round perforated disc with sharp undulating edge. Group XV.
Perforated disc – 12/ah.
Identified as possibly Mesolithic.
Perforated maceheads were produced in Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age periods. That this example is made from Group XV stone presumably indicates a Neolithic/Bronze Age date.
Drawing.
Letter from Professor Shotton.
