Nuneaton Memories
The first Nuneaton Carnival took place 18th October 1930 to raise funds for the Nuneaton General Hospital. Here are three photos of the first Carnival Queens.
I can confirm that the 1931Nuneaton Carnival Queen was Phyllis Gibbs. She was my aunt and died around 2001.
We gave the original framed photograph to Nuneaton Museum after my uncle died in 2005.

That’s really interesting, to have a personal connection to the event. I wondered, did your aunt ever speak about the carnival, or her time as queen? Do you have any stories you could share?
Hi,
My mum was carnival queen in 1971 and I have some beautiful photos and paper clippings if anyone would like a copy. Her name was Carol Mallabone (nee Smith).
