The photo of Ben Davis’s scaffolding on the north side of the church isn’t sixties – it was taken in about 1980/1. I worked for Ben Davis and was there for a few days, gathering up rusted scaffold fittings from the grass, where they’d been thrown, and freeing them up. It was a mess!
I’m just wondering if this might be a photo taken by Geoffrey Hopcraft of Worcester? His elder son Malcolm was a stonemason working for Ben Davis at the time. I can’t remember now whether or not Malcolm actually worked on Alcester church.
