In the eighteenth century this was a farmhouse. The farmer returning from market caught his wife in bed with one of his labourers. After he murdered the labourer one of the upstairs rooms in the building gained a reputation for being haunted. Presumably it was the room where the murder took place. This is still said to take place to this day. Especially in March and November.
