Middleton is in North Warwickshire, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Middleton Hall is now owned by a charitable trust, but in the 17th century was home to Francis Willoughby, ornithologist. Elizabeth I visited the hall in 1575 and knighted the owner (also named Francis Willoughby) whilst there.
