Arbury Hall is the ancestral home of the Newdigate family, and Roger Newdigate’s Gothic Revival rebuilding of the hall remains one of the finest examples of the style in the country. It has indelible links to George Eliot, who was born in one of the estate farms in 1819. Her depiction of Arbury Hall can be read in Scenes of Clerical Life.
