The Cock Inn at Wishaw was originally run by a distant cousin of mine, John Sandon who, with his wife Mary (ne’ Thomas), ran the pub until his son, also John, took over. John senior started off as a Cordwainer, following his father’s profession and took over the pub in the late 1820s. He died in 1866 but by that time John junior was running it with his wife Elizabeth (nee’ Nock)They were both also Farmers, whilst they were running the Cock Inn. John junior died in 1885, so the Cock Inn was run by two generations of Sandon for about sixty years.
