David Buchanan was born in 1829 and educated at Rugby School and Cambridge. He lived at Northfield House, Newbold Road, from 1868 until his death at the age of 71 on May 30th 1900. An all round sportsman he played cricket for the
David Buchanan was born in 1829 and educated at Rugby School and Cambridge. He lived at Northfield House, Newbold Road, from 1868 until his death at the age of 71 on May 30th 1900. An all round sportsman he played cricket for the "Gentlemen of England", the "All England Eleven" and for his University. For nearly fifty years he was connected with the Rugby Cricket Club filling the joint offices of Secretary and Treasurer for nearly 37 years. He was captain for many years. In 1894 he published "A History of the Rugby Cricket Club" Previous to and during the rebuilding of St Andrew's Church (1877-9) he was Churchwarden and during his time in office he put in order the Town Charity Accounts.
