The 16th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment was the 3rd City of Birmingham Battalion, known as the Birmingham Pals. The Battalion was formed from volunteers in response to an appeal by the city’s Lord Mayor in September 1914. Basic training began at Moseley, Birmingham, and continued from April to June 1915 at Malvern Common. This photograph was taken there.
