My father Cyril Hames always talked about when the bridge was widened and he was there as a small boy when they laid the stone in the bridge in 1924. He also had fond memories of all the thatched cottages in Polesworth.
He also used to laugh that he lived close to the Nethersole school in High Street, but was always late.
As a boy (1940 – 1950) we used to spend hours fishing and swimming in the river by the bridge. Some of the other children (mostly boys) used to dive off a pillar that was part of the mill by the side of the river.
I went to the Church of England School. My family and I moved to Wales in 1986 when I was 8 years old and it was to be over 20 years until I returned to Polesworth to look around where I used to live. It seemed a different place when I was a boy, used to spend all day playing in fields or out on our bikes; happy memories.

I use to live in Polesworth, in Ensor Drive.
