Is this building still standing? Whereabouts was the location in Mappleborough Green?
This is a photograph of my Great grandmother affectionately known as Nana Spud. I actually have an original copy. My Dad Gerald Clarke told me and my sister Linda, the story of how she bought this shop with a bag full of pennies which she took to the bank herself. The shop was groceries and a Post office. She used to have a Tea room in the garden. My Dad remembered turning ice to make ice cream. There were groups of cyclists who came on a regular basis. My sister and I would see her every day as we came off the bus from school. She would give us sweets from the large sweetie jars on the shelves. She was a very determined strong woman. My Dad went to explain the decimal system money change to her the night before it was brought in. My Nana, Mrs Clarke, ran the Post Office until three weeks before she died at the age of 93.
