A relative of mine lived next door in 1891, I wondered if the Inn was still there possibly as a house, or demolished?
This pub was reluctantly run by my grandfather Francis Cliff (never knew him), he and wife both died in their mid 40s. The Woodman was owned by Samuel Hewins in 1880s. His only child a daughter Emma, who married Charles Allen, was widowed young with 2 children, inherited and in due course their daughter Emily Allen married Francis Cliff. He stands in the doorway, my father age 5 with dog in bedroom window. The pub was sold in about 1928 after Francis died and Emily died soon after. It was demolished probably about 1948 or so. Some awful 1960s tat was put on the site.
