This building is located on North Road Clifton on Dunsmore, and is unusual in having “cob walling”. The close-up shows its susceptibility to masonry bees (they burrow into soft stone and earth banks and are the bane of many a church), and where a section has apparently been re -finished.
Perhaps due to the suitability of local soils, examples of cob walling can be found in the nearby villages of Shawell and Swinford.
