My mother is in the 1930s school photograph. Her name was Kathleen Alice Brown and she lived in a farm cottage somewhere where the fish restaurant is now on the A5 opposite the Island Hotel.
Hello from Australia. My name is Pauline and I was a student at Burton Hastings Primary school in 1952–1957. I lived in the Royal Fleet Air Arm Base (HMS Gamecock as it was then) and my mother and father both worked in the NAAFI. We had a house on the base and I walked to school each day. The teachers there were Mrs Wells and Mrs Coward, and the classrooms were just two small rooms for the entire school.
There was a sweet shop in the village that sold the most amazing sweets in big jars and it was a favourite stop, even though rationing was still in force.
I remember the Coronation in 1953, and we all got a coin and a mug.

Any other students of that era I wonder?
