I was also born at Avonside House in the 1940s as my pregnant mother was evacuated during the war. I remember Diane as my mother used to take her to school and we used to play together in Churchill Road, Bordesley Green. Would love to hear from her.
My Mother was evacuated from Coventry and I was born at Avonside on January 17th 1944 on a very snowy day. What a beautiful place to be born. By all family accounts she attended a service for the Churching of Women at the church of St. Lawrence.
My mother was born here in May 1942. I thought she was evacuated to a farm not a large house. My grandma had a son who was around 3-4 years old – Peter. I’d love to learn some history about this place.
I was born here in November 1943.
Shortly afterwards I was given up for adoption.
So far I have never met anyone to whom I am genetically connected and wonder how many like me we’re also born in what was then called Avonside Maternity Home?
I too was born there on 15.12.1944- My mother’s cousin was a midwife there and my mother was evacuated from Enfield as it was safer.
Does the house still exist please

I was born here 81 years ago today on the 12 October 1941.
My mother was evacuated from Birmingham.
A wonderful maternity facility and river side location
Amanda said she would like to learn more about Avonside. It was built by my grandparents Henry and Muriel Crawford around 1900, and my mother and uncle were born and brought up there. My grandfather was the local doctor and Bidford village hall and grounds were built in his memory.. my grandmother wrote and published three gardening books about Avonside. I gather she was a friend of Gertrude Jekyll who often gave her tips on the gardens. I have not seen Avonside for a long time but hope it still retains some of the garden my grandmother loved.

My mum was evacuated from Coventry to Avonside and I was born there in August 1942. I have never seen Avonside in person only recently in photographs.
