Description of this historic site
The site of a Second World War pillbox on the canal near to the bridge at Radford Semele. It was largely demolished during the 1950s but some remains are still visible to the west of the Radford Road Bridge.

These are very good photographs, but they are of the pill box by Radford locks, not the one by Radford bridge. The landowner told me that was demolished by army engineers, using explosives in the 1950s. It was located at the east side of first meadow (sometimes incorrectly known as Pingle meadow). When it used to be ploughed some years ago, the plough often used to turn up chunks of concrete from it. It is said that the soldiers who manned it were based at Radford Hall.,
