Human Bones, East of St Peter's Church, Wootton Wawen

Description of this historic site

Human remains of unknown date were discovered during the 18th century whilst a kitchen garden was being created. The bones were found to the east of St Peter's Church, Wootton Wawen.

Notes about this historic site

1 Human bone was uncovered in several places during the making of a kitchen garden in an area known as the Railed Park in the 18th century. This area is believed to lie between St Peter’s Church (WA 1596) and the drive to the Manor House (WA 1624). Medieval deeds refer to an earlier timber church and churchyard on a different site called Priors Close and the author suggests that the bones might be a candidate for such a burial site.
