Findspot - Roman coin hoard from Alvecote Wood, Shuttington

Description of this historic site

Findspot - a coin hoard, a group of coins deposited together. This hoard dates to the Roman period, some coming from the reign of the emperor Constantine. It was discovered in Alvecote Wood, 1km south of Alvecote.

Notes about this historic site

1 1850: A coin hoard had been found ‘a few years ago’. It was a jar of brass or copper coins, some of the reign of Constantine.
2 In 1871 this hoard had been donated to the Tamworth Natural History Society.
4 These finds have now been lost.
5 This may be the same as PRN 181.
6 2 Roman copper alloy coins (AD 330-35) found at SK247037 by metal detector.
