Notes about this historic site
Flint celt found some years ago at the lime-works near King’s Newnham. Now lost.
A further reference may relate to the same find. A worked flint celt was picked up about 60 years ago (ie around 1827) in the upper strata of the lias beds of Little Lawford and King’s Newnham. The axe fell into the possession of a friend of Bloxam’s and, after being exhibited, mysteriously disappeared.
Marginal find.
For the limeworks from which the axe probably came see PRN 5414.
