Picture was taken adjacent to old fire station in the Market Square. The building still exists, as do the two in the background
By the 1960s there was a ‘more modern’ volunteer fire service based in the village. If the firemen were in the pub when the alarm was raised they asked the publican to ‘put their pints behind the counter ‘ until they returned. Many call outs were for accidents near Gaydon, on the main road.
