Comments
In this picture taken between 22nd and 26th September the ground crew have launched HMA Delta and are turning their attention to the new, smaller HMA Eta which unfortunately suffered teething problems throughout. Both were fitted with experimental radio equipment and could communicate with each other and various bases over a distance of up to 100 miles.
A similar or perhaps the same image appeared in the Rugby Advertiser dated 27th September 1913 suggesting that the photograph was taken about mid-day on Tuesday 23rd September at the end of a reconnaissance flight over the Towcester area. I n this case it would appear that some of the crew have been disembarked before the airship is manoeuvred, under light power, with the mooring lines to a resting place against the shelter belt of trees. HMA Eta made a short flight later in the day.
