Show and Tell: The Draft Will of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester
20 March 1:00pm - 1:30pm at Warwickshire County Record Office
Robert Dudley was one of Elizabethan England’s most famous courtiers and statesman and his relationship with Queen Elizabeth I continues to interest us to this day.
He is linked in death to Warwick, being interred in the Beauchamp Chapel in St Mary’s Parish Church. But his importance to the town comes also through an act of benevolence; the foundation of the Lord Leycester Hospital, the primary focus of which was to accommodate poor soldiers and their wives – a purpose more or less maintained still.
One item of the Lord Leycester collection, held at Warwickshire County Record Office, is the draft will of Robert Dudley. Come and view this document and hear how the character of one of the most important personalities of the Tudor age is reflected through it.
