George Eliot and Warwickshire History
19 March 7:15pm - 9:30pm at Friends Meeting House, 39 High Street, Warwick, CV34 4AX
Warwickshire Local History Society’s AGM is followed by a lecture by David Paterson on ‘George Eliot and Warwickshire History . This will be part of our celebration of the bi-centenary of the birth of the County’s Greatest novelist. David will show how George Eliot’s Warwickshire upbringing suffused so much of her writing. The lecture will provide a useful historical and literary background to our outing to Griff and Chilvers Coton on Saturday, 11 May 2019, where we will visit the world of agricultural change, ribbon weaving, coal mining and a transport revolution. Details of the outing will be available on the society’s website early in 2019 and will be posted on Our Warwickshire soon after that.
Please note the earlier start time for the AGM. The meeting starts at 7.15pm for coffee, 7.45pm for the AGM and at 8pm for the lecture, at the Quaker Meeting House, 39 High Street, Warwick, CV34 4AX
Members of Local History Societies which are affiliated to WLHS are welcome to attend. We charge non-members £3.00 — refundable on the night if you join the Society!
