Witherley is across the county border in Leicestershire, although the border between the two counties runs along the parish boundary. Noted Warwickshire places Atherstone and Mancetter are also close by. Witherley was a noted site during the English Civil War, with a number of parliamentary troops from Warwickshire passing through.
